Development and Construction
We act for developers, architects and surveyors advising on drafting and negotiating documentation in connection with property construction and development, the appointment of building contractors and professional advisers and drafting duty of care warranties. If litigious construction issues arise, we are also able to offer in-depth advice.

Investment Property
Our clients include property investors of all sizes – from major pension funds to individual investors. We advise and act on the acquisition, disposal and management of multi-million pound developments and portfolios.
We have also acted in the creation of over 150 property syndicates enabling groups of unconnected individuals to acquire investment property in a tax efficient way - particularly useful for those who wish, for example, to include a commercial property element in a SIPP.
We cover all aspects of the property acquisition process including the letting and management of property as well as its disposal.

Finance and Joint Ventures
Banks and other lending institutions come to us for assistance in relation to security in support of their finance for property acquisitions and developments. We advise on asset finance and joint ventures, including the formation of joint venture companies, partnerships and trusts. We also offer advice on all aspects of the securitisation of property investments, including the formation and authorising of unit trusts.

Commercial Occupiers
We are on hand to advise those clients who have their own freeholds or who lease their property for their own occupation. Our clients include high street retailers, manufacturers, professional firms, service companies and brewers, hoteliers and public house chains. We also act for a major media plc with a country-wide office portfolio.
Hotels, pubs and leisure work forms a specialist sector group. We were the advising solicitors to the developer of the Eden Project in Cornwall, which involved the construction of the largest conservatory in the world, and also to The Deep in Hull, one of the largest aquaria in Europe. The services we provide in this sector are more fully explained in the service group brochure which is available on request.

Domestic Property Transactions
Unusually for a City firm we also undertake domestic property work, providing a comprehensive service to individuals making probably the greatest financial commitment of their lives.

Taxation
We regularly advise on the tax implications of property transactions, mitigating SDLT liabilities and using tax structures to minimise tax on the transaction. More details on these services can be found on the taxation pages.

Planning and Environment
We provide planning advice at all levels from background advice on normal property transactions through to full planning enquiries. We also advise on environmental issues and contaminated land problems.

Property Litigation
Every so often the relationship between landlord and tenant requires legal input from a management or dispute perspective. We provide quick and effective solutions when required. When matters become disputed, we have the expertise to distinguish between a relationship breakdown that can be repaired and a complete breakdown. Whether dealing with everyday Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 matters, securing an appropriate compromise, enforcing rights and obligations or achieving a parting of the ways, we know that speed is vital.
