"In the City for over 200 years"

Druces and its forerunners have been practising in the City for over 200 years. We are not an impersonal giant but a dynamic, compact and expanding broad based city practice with a staff of around 70 including 12 partners. This exposes trainee solicitors to different aspects of the law in a wide variety of areas helping them to chose, with confidence, the right area of specialisation on qualification.

"Expansion and Development"

Our firm is pleased to have been able to hold its own despite the recent spate of merger mania. However, we can expect and look forward to expansion in all our departments. We believe that we provide a high level of service to our clients and the exceptional quality of work which we undertake reflects the confidence that our clients have in our abilities.

Druces has four main departments (Corporate & Commercial, Property, Private Capital and Litigation) and works through cross-departmental specialist practice groups. We aim to give our trainee solicitors a general grounding in the law in each of our specialist areas. A trainee solicitor can expect to cover the following areas during his or her training:

"Continuing Education"

Trainee solicitors are expected, as part of their continuing education, to attend both internal and external seminars and courses which are considered beneficial to both their own future and that of the firm. Trainee solicitors are also expected to participate at regular meetings of the various departments and business groups so as to broaden their knowledge and experience.

"Information Technology"

We are very keen that our trainee solicitors are given a sound training in word processing skills, office management systems and computerised legal research and the professional use of e-mail and the Internet, thereby increasing their own efficiency and the total efficiency of the firm.

"Take Responsibility"

From an early stage, trainee solicitors will be encouraged to have the conduct of their own matters, naturally under supervision. They will be given the opportunity to negotiate and meet with clients and members of other firms of solicitors. We arrange for trainee solicitors to take responsibility as soon as possible and we believe that this is both in their interest and ours.

"Well-trained People"

We have trainee solicitors partly because we find them useful and pleasant to have around during their period of training and partly because we wish to have a supply of well-trained people from whom we can chose future qualified solicitors and Principals. Four of the Principals in the firm trained with us.

"Competitive Salary"

"We realise the importance of offering a competitive salary on joining the firm and have two salary reviews each year."

Training Principal

A Former Trainee Solicitor's View

Quality Training

The general opinion amongst both present and former trainee solicitors at Druces is that the training received is of a very high calibre. Those who have sought employment elsewhere following completion of their training have been readily accepted by many of the leading City firms.

Whilst your training may not instill in you the experience to deal with every situation you are likely to encounter, with the level of responsibility given to trainee solicitors at Druces, an individual develops the necessary confidence to know how to deal with the wide range of events and problems facing solicitors both whilst training and on qualification.

The Firm's Structure

Being essentially a small to medium-sized firm, Druces is able to maintain an essential element of personal contact with clients. This practice is actively encouraged throughout the firm.

A good management system has been established resulting, where necessary, in cross-departmental discussion, assistance and information. This is achieved and encouraged throughout the firm and promotes a friendly, helpful and healthy working environment.

A Druces Trainee

If you are an ambitious, bright and intelligent person with initiative and personality, then Druces is the ideal working environment for you.

Druces is interested in recruiting those candidates seeking a challenging role where ability and motivation are rewarded.
