Probate & Estate Administration
Dealing with the affairs of someone who has died can be a complex process. The extent of their assets and liabilities must be ascertained; the tax position must be resolved and, ultimately, the net estate has to be distributed, either to the beneficiaries named in the Will or in accordance with the Intestacy Rules.
Every estate is unique. We have a wealth of experience in guiding executors and bereaved families through the administration process, including for estates which cross borders, with assets overseas as well as in the UK. We also have a particular expertise when it comes to France. Our team includes dual qualified advisers and we are able to assist with French probate matters and deal with the sale of French property.

Recent work
- We advised the executors in relation to the UK estate of an American, valued at tens of millions of dollars who was resident in the UK.
- We were instructed to locate the potential beneficiaries of an estate, tracing the wider family who had dispersed over Europe and America.
- We acted on a particularly complex probate with continuing trusts and a number of Agricultural Property Relief claims.
- We are advising on issues relating to an insolvent estate with debts in excess of £1.75m. This case involves cross border work with Belgium and includes artwork and a book collection.
