Nicole is a Partner in Druces’ Private Client team. Nicole’s practice covers a broad range of private client work, including estate planning, will drafting, incapacity and probate, particularly with a cross border element, most frequently in France and other French speaking jurisdictions. She also advises on a wide variety of issues relating to French property. She has extensive experience of structuring transactions to meet clients’ personal and tax needs.
Born and educated in Belgium, Nicole is a qualified solicitor & diplômée notaire with over 17 years’ experience practising in the UK and France. She has degrees in English and French Law from Kings College London and the Université de Paris I – Panthéon-Sorbonne, and studied French notarial law at postgraduate and professional level and holds a French notaire’s diploma. Her first years as a lawyer saw Nicole working in a large firm of notaires in Paris. Nicole is bilingual in English and French and also speaks Spanish.
Nicole qualified as a solicitor in 2010 and was previously a Director at Sykes Anderson Perry Limited* prior to their merger with Druces in 2019.
Nicole is an affiliate member of STEP and a member of the BLCC and Anglo-Belgian Society. Publications of note include articles written for the STEP Journal, PS Magazine, Law Gazette and Daily Telegraph. She regularly speaks at seminars and conferences. In her spare time, Nicole volunteers with HNDL in France and enjoys cooking for friends and family.
Nicole’s interest in cross-border issues was piqued as early as her teens when she saw the additional difficulties a surviving spouse faces in international situations. She is passionate about helping international families plan their estates, and helping their families deal with their estates after a death. At a difficult time, the international elements are often “the final straw” for the bereaved. Nicole focuses on explaining the different processes and considerations in a sympathetic and practical manner and aims to make the whole process as stress-free as possible. She liaises across borders with the different family members and professionals involved and ensures that any misunderstandings or complications are dealt with promptly and smoothly.
