Arbitration
We have a breadth of experience in handling domestic and international disputes under the full range of arbitration rules. The team has a particular expertise in dealing with construction disputes, as well as experience of international trade, commercial and investment treaty arbitrations.
In an international context, our arbitration lawyers have worked with the ICC International Court of Arbitration rules, the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes, and the London Court of International Arbitration. We regularly partner with other experts, drawn from our international network of lawyers, where different legal systems are involved.
In a domestic context, the team has extensive knowledge and experience of the UK arbitration rules.
We are happy to advise on everything from drafting arbitration agreements, setting up ad hoc arbitrations after a dispute has arisen and appointing tribunals to handling enforcement actions in England and world-wide.
Our experience
- Acting for turnkey contractor in proceedings up to the Supreme Court in relation to enforcement of New York Convention arbitration award against a state-owned oil and gas company
- Advising on a number of potential arbitrations for a UAE client, pursuing the recovery of over $100m
- Advising on an ICC arbitration regarding dispute over works in Iraq.
- Acting for a Formula 1 driver obtaining an award of specific performance against his team relating to his entitlement to be a nominated race driver.
- Advised a US Investment Fund claiming US$250m against a European state regarding a tender for the privatised telecommunications industry.
- Acted for European finance ministry on a US$50m claim by an investor in relation to broadcasting licences under a bilateral investment treaty.
